Property ads love terms like “1.5 BHK” or “2.5 BHK”. That “half” often sounds like a bonus room, but the real question is: is it actually usable?
When you see a floor plan, check the dimensions of the “half” room. Is it wide enough to fit at least a single bed, a desk, or proper storage? Or is it just a narrow, windowless strip being marketed as an extra bedroom?
See where it’s located. A small room near the living area can work as a study, kids’ room, or guest nook. But a tiny, awkward corner with no door or ventilation may only work as storage.
Consider privacy and ventilation. A “half” room without a window can get stuffy fast and may not be ideal as a regular bedroom.
Think about your actual needs. If you just need a dedicated work-from-home corner, a practical “half” can be a blessing. If you need a full extra bedroom, a cramped “plus” may not solve your problem at all.
Don’t get hypnotised by labels—look at how you’ll live in that space daily.
