Small kitchens with limited cabinets quickly turn into chaos, especially on the counters. But even in tight spaces, it’s possible to keep counters relatively clear.
First rule: only daily-use appliances earn a permanent place on the countertop—maybe the stove, one major appliance (kettle or microwave), and that’s it. Less-used gadgets like mixers, grinders or sandwich makers should live inside cabinets or on shelves.
Use vertical storage. Wall-mounted shelves, magnetic knife strips, hanging rails for ladles and pans, and hooks under cabinets all pull items off the counter and onto the wall.
Group small items into trays or baskets. Instead of oil, salt, masala jars and spoons spread everywhere, keep them in a single easy-to-move tray near the stove.
Be strict about what enters the kitchen. Extra bottles, bulk packets that don’t fit anywhere, and random containers can be shifted to a separate storage spot in another room if needed.
Finally, make it a habit to clear the counter every night—even if you’re tired. Waking up to a clean surface makes the whole day’s cooking feel lighter.
